Ingredients
Coating
Cake Pops
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 1 cup sugar Or - My preferred method is a 1/2 or pyure organic sweetener
- 2 eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1/2 almond milk
- 1 pack black fondant (4.4 oz pack( You can also make your own with marshmallows and food coloring
- 12 oz bag of baking chips I always purchase extra in case
Instructions
- Preheat your cakepop maker
Cake Pops
- Mix shortening and sugar together with a mixer. Then add vanilla and eggs and mix again.
- In a separate bowl, mix flour, salt, and baking soda.
- Add half of the flour mixture in with the egg and vanilla mixture. Then, add milk and second half of flour mixture and mix again.
- Spray your cakepop maker with nonstick spray. Add roughly one tablespoon of batter. To make this easier - use an ice cream scooper. You don't want to let the cake pops sit too long while pouring in the batter - they start cooking. (I have found it's better to overfill it a little then underfill it).
- Let cook for about 5 minutes, or until they a golden brown.
- Let Cool for 15 minutes
Coating
- Microwave baking chips for one minute then stir. Microwave in 30 second increments until smooth. Do not over heat - the chocolate will thicken. If this happens add a teaspoon of shortening to the mixture and microwave - this can save the chocolate if it's not too thickened.
- Once the cake pops are cooled, place them on a cake pop stick and dip/coat with the chocolate mixture. Leave to dry and harden in the fridge.
- Once they are hardened, roll out the black fondant into a thin layer
- Cut out circular pieces and place onto the cake pop. Then, gently push down using the silicone square (or other silicone alternative). Don't push too hard or you can crack the cake pop. -This is the most time consuming part, so be prepared!
- Leave to dry - then enjoy!
